FNP Essentials Book
The FNP-C Complete System
What’s in the box
Three formats, one AANPCB blueprint. The book teaches the whole map in pictures, the QBank builds exam-room judgment case by case, and the deck makes the thresholds and first-line choices automatic.
Practice that studies you back
Every session feeds the engine — it learns what you miss and rebuilds your next session around it.
Answer questions and the bank quietly rebalances — your weakest clinical domains get more reps, automatically, after every single session.

Daily quizzes, assigned practice sets, and a streak that keeps you honest between clinic shifts.

Three full-length timed mocks with a countdown clock, a question palette, and flagging — the same rhythm as test day.

One readiness score, a week-by-week trend, and per-domain accuracy — so "am I ready?" stops being a feeling.

Highlight inside any explanation and save it as a note. Every note stays linked to the question it came from.

FNP Essentials Book
The Complete Visual Study Guide for the FNP-C and FNP-BC exams — plain-language theory, 241 drawn figures and diagrams, 37 dated guideline stamps, and a trap autopsy under every practice question. Included in every plan.
Included with every Complete Pass System plan — read it on any device, no extra cost.
FNP-C is a credential of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board. FNP-BC is a credential of the American Nurses Credentialing Center. This independent study resource is not endorsed by or affiliated with either organization.

500 flashcards, zero filler
The thresholds, stages, and first-line treatments the exam expects on reflex — tagged by clinical system.
- Cardiovascular
CHA₂DS₂-VASc Threshold
Anticoagulate atrial fibrillation at a score of 2+ in men, 3+ in women. Score 0 (men) or 1 (women): no anticoagulation.
- Respiratory
GOLD COPD Criterion
Post-bronchodilator FEV1/FVC below 0.70 confirms persistent airflow limitation. GOLD grades 1–4 then use FEV1 percent predicted.
- Endocrine
Prediabetes Ranges
A1C 5.7–6.4%; fasting glucose 100–125 mg/dL; 2-hour OGTT 140–199 mg/dL.
- Endocrine
DKA vs HHS
DKA: glucose >250, pH <7.3, marked ketones, anion-gap acidosis. HHS: glucose >600, pH >7.3, minimal ketones, osmolality >320.
- Women's Health
USPSTF 2024 Mammography
Biennial screening mammography from age 40 to 74 for average-risk women — lowered from 50 in the 2024 recommendation.
- GI
LFT Patterns
Hepatocellular: AST/ALT rise predominates (hepatitis, NAFLD, toxins). Cholestatic: alkaline phosphatase and bilirubin predominate.
- Musculoskeletal
Gout vs Pseudogout Crystals
Gout: needle-shaped urate crystals, negatively birefringent, favors first MTP. Pseudogout: rhomboid CPPD, positively birefringent, favors knee.
- Neurology
Stroke Thrombolysis Window
IV thrombolysis within 4.5 hours of last-known-well, after CT excludes hemorrhage. Thrombectomy for large-vessel occlusion up to 24 hours by imaging.
- GU/Renal
First-Line for Uncomplicated Cystitis
Nitrofurantoin 100 mg BID x5d, TMP-SMX DS BID x3d (if resistance <20%), or fosfomycin 3 g once. Fluoroquinolones are not first-line.
- GU/Renal
KDIGO eGFR Stages
G1 ≥90, G2 60–89, G3a 45–59, G3b 30–44, G4 15–29, G5 <15. G1–G2 need a damage marker to count as CKD.
- Dermatology
Isotretinoin Safety
Teratogenic: iPLEDGE requires 2 negative pregnancy tests and 2 forms of contraception. Monitor fasting lipids and LFTs.
- Psychiatric
GAD-7 Severity Bands
5 mild, 10 moderate, 15 severe. A score of 10 or higher warrants further evaluation and likely treatment.
- Hematology
Warfarin Targets & Reversal
Goal INR 2–3 for AF and VTE (2.5–3.5 for mechanical mitral valve). Reverse major bleeding with 4-factor PCC plus IV vitamin K.
- Hematology
Anemia First Step
Read the MCV: microcytic <80, normocytic 80–100, macrocytic >100 — then use the reticulocyte count to split hypo- vs hyper-proliferative.
- Infectious Disease
Active TB Regimen
RIPE (rifampin, isoniazid, pyrazinamide, ethambutol) for 2 months, then rifampin + isoniazid for 4 more. Add B6 with isoniazid.
Sixteen cards from the live deck, lightly compressed to fit the card face. Every card in the product carries the full detail.

Who it is for
Built for the candidate, not the shelf
One volume, both boards. However you come to the FNP exam, the book meets you there.
The first-time candidate
Out of your program and straight at the boards. One connected story from newborn to older adult, in the order the exam thinks.
The ANCC sitter
Chapter 20 is a full appendix for the non-clinical third — research, law, policy and role — with the 30 October 2026 outline change dated.
The retaker
Failed by a handful of questions? Chapter 1 is the reading protocol for exactly that gap, and 131 trap autopsies name the setups that caught you.
The working RN
Studying between shifts. Sections run two to four pages with the memory hook always in the same slot, so twenty minutes still moves you forward.
The visual learner
241 figures in one consistent hand and 166 comparison tables — the murmur map, the milestone ladder, the master drug tables — drawn once and kept.
The cohort or program
Certifying a class on one consistent source, current to the 06/2026 handbook, included in every seat’s bundle.

About FNP-C prep
The system is built for the AANPCB FNP-C exam: the three mocks mirror its 150-question format, and the bank follows the AANPCB blueprint (Assess 32%, Diagnose 26.5%, Plan 26.5%, Evaluate 15%). Because AANPCB testing is essentially all clinical, the same clinical preparation covers the bulk of ANCC’s FNP-BC exam too — but the mock format targets AANP.
The AANPCB FNP exam is 150 multiple-choice questions — 135 scored plus 15 unscored pretest items — with 3 hours of testing time at Prometric centers. Results are reported as pass/fail against a scaled passing standard, with a preliminary result shown at the test center.
AANPCB reported an 81% first-time pass rate for the FNP exam in 2025, across 15,395 initial exams. Roughly 1 in 5 first-time candidates fails — which is why our bank drills the applied clinical judgment the exam actually tests rather than recall alone.
Every question was written to a named guideline and then independently re-verified: a separate reviewer re-derived each answer against current sources — ACC/AHA, ADA Standards of Care, GOLD, GINA, CDC/ACIP, USPSTF, KDIGO, IDSA — and adversarially tried to defend every distractor. Items that were outdated, unsafe, or ambiguous were discarded, not patched.
Starting January 2026, AANPCB allows up to 3 FNP exam attempts per calendar year. Before retesting you must submit a new application with the fee, and AANPCB’s FAQ requires 15 hours of continuing education relevant to your weak areas. Our per-system analytics show you exactly where those weak areas are.
Yes. Every Complete Pass System plan includes FNP Essentials — the 428-page visual study guide covering both the AANP FNP-C and ANCC FNP-BC exams, with 241 diagrams and figures, 183 practice questions, and a full ANCC appendix. It is a print-ready PDF and it is not sold separately.
No. PrepSolution is an independent study resource. FNP-C is a certification mark of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board (AANPCB); all exam facts here come from AANPCB’s published candidate handbook and statistics.
PrepSolution for the FNP-C
The FNP-C Complete Pass System is built as a complete prep path: 1,087 practice questions aligned to the AANPCB 2024 Blueprint, each with a written rationale, plus 3 full-length mock exams. Every question is written and reviewed by credentialed professionals who hold the FNP-C, and Complete Pass System plans carry the pass guarantee: finish the study plan and mocks, and if you don’t pass, your access is extended free.
FNP-C prep starts at $109.99 one-time and runs up to $279.99 for the longest Complete Pass System plan. Every plan is a single payment for a fixed access length — no subscription and no auto-renewal — and current prices are always shown on this page’s pricing section.
Candidates usually weigh PrepSolution against UWorld NP, BoardVitals, APEA. PrepSolution’s approach: every question is written by credentialed FNP-C holders, every answer includes a full rationale, plans are one-time payments rather than subscriptions, and the Complete Pass System includes the pass guarantee. When comparing, check question counts, which formats are included at each price, and access length.

Many candidates come to PrepSolution after a failed first attempt. The most common reason for failure is approaching judgment-based questions with workplace instinct rather than a systematic framework. Start with a diagnostic mock exam to identify your weakest domains, then follow the targeted study plan.
Many employers cover professional development costs including exam prep materials. After purchase, you’ll receive a receipt that can be submitted for reimbursement. Contact support@prepsolution.com if you need a customized invoice.
